Hello, and welcome back to The Kable. After what feels like 11 whole months, it's suddenly December again and time to finally say adieu to last year's resolutions and maybe plan new ones.
We have a reasonably light Kable for you today, kicking off with a mention for AstraZeneca, Moderna and Astellas. They, along with a few others, were winners at Reuters' first European pharma awards, a win so prestigious not a single one of the winners mentioned it in any of their communications.
2022 has not been a good year... for birds of all types. Avian life that didn't directly succumb to bird flu was instead culled out of existence. Peru and Ecuador have, however, become the first countries to declare animal health emergencies for the next three months due to bird flu outbreaks. We guess this means birds, too, get to experience masking mandates and lockdowns and mandated flight time.
The French baguette, China's traditional tea ritual and the Arabic oral tradition of calling camels have all become the latest cultural practices and expressions to join UNESCO's protected heritage list.
After seeing historic protests against Covid measures across China, local administrations around the country finally seem to be easing up on the stringent Zero Covid policies in play for nearly three years.Â
And finally, a fascinating read by Eric Topol on what appears to be a case for using smartphones for ultrasound imaging is also a dissertation on data and its interpretation.
