For India's Maiden Pharma, it must've been one stormy weekend after India's pharma exports council, the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil), suspended Maiden's export license on Saturday.
Separately and unrelated, Pharmexcil is hosting a virtual meet-and-greet for Indian drug exporterslooking to tap into the market in Guatemala. We presume Maiden won't be joining the Webex.
Elsewhere in India, a pandemic is raging. That of antimicrobial resistance, with doctors saying antibiotic-resistant infections alone claim the lives of nearly 60,000 newborns each year.
The fallout of infant deaths due to Maiden's cough syrups in The Gambia is spreading across neighbouring countries. Regulators in Rwanda have started investigating the cough syrups after the WHO's alert last week.
