Hello, and welcome back to The Kable. October was quite a slow month on the news front. And this past weekend has been the slowest of them, with barely any news to report.
Covid, however, is claiming headlines again. In Macau, casinos are going into lockdown, while in Shanghai, the Disney resort is shutting down. And in Zhengzhou, at Foxconn's iPhone manufacturing factory, workers are jumping over fences to avoid a lockdown, opting to walk hundreds of kilometres to their hometowns instead.
In Europe, regulators have recommended adding heavy periods as a side effect of mRNA Covid shots. The regulatory committee says the causal linkage between vaccination and heavy periods is a "reasonable possibility."
In Sri Lanka, the economic crisis has resulted in a massive shortage of medicines and supplies. Doctors have been dependent on donations from overseas residents and exhortations to prayer to treat people. Finally, with no other option left, doctors in Sri Lanka are doing the only thing they can: they're leaving the country for jobs elsewhere.
Australia's hacking epidemic continues, with the country's defence department being the latest to be targeted by a ransomware attack.
