Hello and welcome back to The Kable, where Philips is joining the list of big players in life sciences to plan layoffs. The company's newly appointed CEO announced the planned cuts while delivering the Q3 financial results. Philips plans to lay off 4,000 people around the world, with the bulk of the layoffs planned for the US, the Netherlands, India and China, the four biggest markets in terms of Philips' employer base.

In Indonesia, health authorities say they may look to prosecute the makers of cough syrups that have led to over 100 children dying in the country this year.

In Malawi, the world's first malaria vaccination campaign kicks off in November.

And finally, in Nigeria, the Nigerian Medical Association says over 10,000 doctors have left the country in the past 7 years.
