#198 | Torrent Pharma gets US FDA love
Hello, and welcome back to The Kable.
India's Torrent Pharma is the star in the newest episode of the epic love story featuring the US FDA and Indian drugmakers. The agency has flagged several lapses in quality and procedure at Torrent's manufacturing facility in Indrad, Gujarat via a Form 483 issued after an inspection last month.
Another Indian drugmaker, Lupin, is investing $75 million to acquire two inhalation brands and expand its respiratory portfolio in the US.
The UK, which had put a freeze on humanitarian aid in July, and extended it earlier this week, has announced a £14 million funding package to help drought-stricken Ethiopia. This announcement came from the UK Minister for Development, Vicky Ford, who is on a two-day trip to Ethiopia. During the trip, Ford also pushed for peace in Tigray, where hostilities have escalated drastically.
Separately, the WHO chief, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has asked the world to pay more heed to the Tigray situation, saying it is a health crisis for 6 million people and that there is a "very narrow window now to prevent genocide" in the region.
